Giardinelli Brand Spotlight Part 1: Accessories

Although Giardinelli may be a newer brand, they’ve designed custom mouthpieces and brass instruments for thousands of professional musicians around the world. If you’re ascending to the next level and need an instrument that can truly deliver, Giardinelli has a series of instruments that are sure to steal the show. Whether you’re first chair or simply purchasing your first instrument, each Giardinelli instrument has a long history of craftsmanship and excellence behind them, as they were designed in partnership with some of the world’s finest instrument builders.

Giardinelli Mouthpieces

Although Giardinelli manufactures instruments, most musicians favor the brand for their expertly crafted mouthpieces. All brass manufacturers make mouthpieces to accompany their instruments, but few treat mouthpieces with such regard. Giardinelli has been producing mouthpieces for decades and has spent a considerable amount of time refining its designs. Giardinelli mouthpieces originated in the New York repair shop of Robert Giardinelli. Although the shop specialized in brass instrument repair, more and more musicians began asking Giardinelli to modify their mouthpieces. He’d file, machine, and drill them until the brass player was happy with their new and improved mouthpiece.

The Giardinelli Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece Kit contains everything you need to get started: mouthpiece, ligature, and cap.

During this time, Giardinelli noticed that most mouthpieces available at the time were of poor quality. He decided he could design and produce better mouthpieces, and the rest is history. Initially, he created custom mouthpieces for musicians he knew from his repair business and, before long, word got out. In just a few years, he was manufacturing mouthpieces for the likes of Louis Armstrong, Maynard Ferguson, and other big-time jazz and orchestra musicians. Eventually, the repair shop became a small factory and Giardinelli mouthpieces were sold as standalone pieces. Over the years, the Giardinelli line has continued to build their reputation among professional and amateur musicians alike. In fact, many of them have found their perfect mouthpiece in the Giardinelli line.

Comfort & Quality

Perhaps the most obvious characteristic of Giardinelli mouthpieces is that they’re more comfortable and provide a better fit. Although the variations in mass, diameter, shape, and width of the mouthpieces are subtle, even the smallest variations create differences in feel and air flow, both of which impact a player’s connection with their instrument. For this reason, it’s important to experiment with different Giardinelli mouthpieces until you find the one that’s perfect for you. If you’re wondering which mouthpieces are most popular with other players, club and jazz musicians tend to prefer the 7 and 6 series mouthpieces, while symphony players tend to prefer 3 and 1 series.

As far as quality goes, Giardinelli mouthpieces can’t be beat. Machined with lathes that create super smooth surfaces, it’s been rumored that breaks or cracks in Giardinelli mouthpieces can’t even be examined under a microscope. Each mouthpiece is double plated with high quality and very pure nickel silver, resulting in a plated surface that’s as smooth and durable as you’re likely to find. Musicians who play Giardinelli mouthpieces point out that they aren’t abrasive to the lips, and won’t wear through, no matter how much time you spend playing, performing, and practicing.

Giardinelli also designs and manufactures a wide variety of reeds. Whether you play the clarinet or the saxophone, there’s a high-quality Giardinelli reed that’ll help improve your playing.
