Even More Apps for Musicians

What Are the Different Parts of the Trumpet?

As has been discussed in part one of this series, there are many resources available to musicians that have a smartphone or a tablet. There are so many apps available to help musicians, regardless of their skill level, instrument, or style of play. If you’re looking for help learning, practicing, recording, or preparing for a musical performance, here are a few apps that we think can help you.

Lyrically

Lyrics apps can be helpful since even the best musicians forget lyrics sometimes. Lyrically provides access to lyrics for more than a million songs, so if you’re learning by playing cover songs or just enjoy playing covers for fun, this is an excellent app for you. One great feature that sets Lyrically apart is that it can recognize the music you’re playing and display the lyrics for you without you having to manually search. Lyrically is available for both Android and iOS devices.

RecForge Pro

High quality sound recording is important for many musicians. While, obviously, mobile recording is never going to be up to studio quality standards, some apps like RecForge Pro do a surprisingly good job. Considered by musicians to be a serious audio recorder, it records in various formats including mp3, ogg, or wav. RecForge Pro allows you to edit your recordings, convert them between formats, and store them in the cloud. Additionally, RecForge Pro provides a variety of tools and settings so you can get your recording just right. RecForge Pro is available on Android from the Google Play Store and it’s recommended that you purchase a microphone to use with your handset.

DJ Studio 5 is a virtual turntable that allows you to mix, remix, scratch, loop, or pitch your music right from your phone. While this app isn’t necessarily professional DJ quality, it can provide a good place to mess around and try out mixing music. Conveniently, this app doesn’t feature ads or hidden charges. DJ Studio 5 is highly-rated by users and is available for Android on the Google Play Store.

Inspired by rack-mount synthesizers, Caustic 3 allows you to add up to 14 machines with a wide range of choices to pick from. There are also 16 effect types, 2 of which can be added to each machine. Caustic 3 supports automation on most controls and has powerful editors to modify your recordings with. The app is free to use, but a paid version enables you to import and export files. Caustic 3 is available for Android on the Google Play Store.
